The Polish retail trade market is one of the most competitive and quickly changing. In spite of variety of players, Biedronka remains the leader of Polish food products market. Currently Biedronka owns over 1500 stores and it is Poland's largest chain of retail stores. It also has 8 modern Distribution Centers and employs over 27 thousand employees, which positions Biedronka as one of the largest Polish employers.

Biedronka one of the most valuable brands
Rzeczpospolita has again prepared the ranking of the most valuable brands in Poland in 2009. Biedronka held 9th position and was promoted from the 12th place in 2008. The value of the brand amounted to 953.3 million PLN. Additionally, in the category "The most often chosen brands" and "Priority in awareness" Biedronka took the 1st position and in the ranking "Awareness of the brand" occupied the 3rd place. Biedronka is the highest estimated brand among the retail chains in Poland.

Effie award for Biedronka
On 26th October 2009, in Warsaw National Philharmony took place EFFIE Awards Gala honoring effectiveness of the marketing communicaton. JMD Ad Campaign “Products from Biedronka recommend themselves” received the silver Effie award in the “long-term” category. During the 32 years of competition, which rewards most effective advertising campaigns, numerous outstanding campaigns have recived EFFIE awards. Biedronka among leaders of Polish transformation
We are happy to inform you that Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja earned the title of "Leader of 20 Years of Polish Transformation" from the monthly magazine Frobes. The distinction was awarded in the "Best restrucured and managed companies in the FMCG sector" category. The jury included representatives of the mass media, non-governmental organisations and independent experts. "I and the team of 25,000 employees are very proud that our every-day work and consistent activities towards sustainable development were appreciated by granting the award to us." - said Pedro Pereira da Silva, JMD general director during the awards ceremony.

Korona Handlu for Biedronka
Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja company received the award Korona Handlu which is assigned to those who „ through realization of interesting and new solutions influence the shape of trade in the domestic as well as in the global scale”. The jury underlined the effective concept of the chain which is the best functioning chain of stores of this format in Poland. Mr. Carlos Saraiva, JMD board member when picking up the award said:” It is a summary of our work and effort of more than 25 thousand employees and our long-term business partners who have been building the prestige of our company for more than 14 years”.

Biedronka - trustworthy employer
On 20th October this year the official results of the first ranking edition „Trustworthy Employer” were announced. In the category “Retail chains” Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja S.A. the owner of Biedronka stores’ chain is the laureate. The main aim of the ranking is to award large companies operating on the Polish market, which within employment policy reach out for interesting and efficient solutions. The award was picked up on behalf of the company by Mr. Pedro Pereira da Silva, general manager JMD S.A.

Biedronka awarded with „Ubi Caritas”
Jury of the award “Ubi Caritas” assigned Biedronka with a distinction in the category “Donor” and “Cooperation with Caritas”. These distinctions are the summary of many years of JMD cooperation with Caritas Polska at annual charitable actions such as: Children’s Day – where during family festivities in large cities in Poland Biedronka gives children 50 000 packages, International Day of the Sick – where Biedronka hands out gifts to little patients in hospitals and Santa Clause Day when Biedronka donates packages to the poorest children from Warsaw-Prague Diocese in Warsaw. For JMD providing support in such activities means “sharing with people in need”. Biedronka has been consistently developing this area of performance.

JMD among the biggest companies of Central Eastern Europe
Newsweek magazine published the list of 500 leading companies in Central and Eastern Europe. Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja S.A. has been placed on high 20th position. The ranking was prepared in cooperation with Coface Group.

Biedronka, thanks to the votes of its customers, was the winner of the Champion of Trade and Services MasterCard 2009 pol in the category "My Favourite Store". Golden Consumer's Laurel 2009
Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja S.A., the owner of Biedronka stores, took the firs place in the category "Customers-friendly stores" in the annual Consumer's Laurel 2009 competition. It is worth mentioning that the Consumer's Laurel was assigned by the most demanding jury - the customers themselves, who every day buy products offered by Biedronka stores. It is thanks to their votes that the brand was chosen the most friendly. By awarding Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja SA with another Laurel consumers have proven for the second time that they appreciate Biedronka stores.

JMD - student employer of the year
Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja recived the distinction assigned by the Polish students in the Student Employer category in the plebiscite for the Student Product of the Year. The plebiscite was organized by Media Group Sp. z o.o. (9th edition), the publisher of the student magazine "?dlaczego" (?why) and the www.korba.pl website. The award ceremony took place on 27th May 2009 in the Business Centre Club in Warsaw.

JMD among the biggest companies
"Polityka" – the Polish weekly magazine for the sixteenth time published the list of 500 largest companies in Poland. Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja S.A. has been placed in the top ten companies moving up 3 positions respectively to the previous year. JMD S.A. currently ranks 8th among companies such as the Lotus Group, Fiat Auto Poland, Tauron Group or KGHM. Position in the ranking is determined by revenues from the sales.

The Best In Poland
Biedronka was nominated by consumers to be one of the winners of XI edition of Consumers’ Product Quality Contest "The Best in Poland". During the ceremony, held in Poznan on April 24th "The Best in Poland" certificate was granted to a line of ready meals "Domowy Obiadek" ("Home-made dinner"), produced for Biedronka by HJ Heinz Polska SA. "The best in Poland" competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious contests promoting Polish producers and their products. The winners join the honoured group of users of "The Best in Poland" emblem granted by the most demanding jury - consumers. For Biedronka this is already the second award - in 2008 Marco Premium Quality ginger cookies were granted the same certificate.

EUROMARKA
It is pleasure to inform you that on February 19th, during the ceremony of EUROMARKA certificates, Biedronka received a special award for the most interesting advertising campaign entitled “Products from Biedronka recommend themselves”. EUROMARKA is a Promotion Program of Entrepreneurship and Export, which identifies, rewards and promotes brands under the patronage of Ministry of Economy and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. EFFIE 2008
Biedronka campaign "Products from Biedronka recommend themselves” prepared for Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja was granted a silver statuette in the EFFIE 2008. The aim was to keep a leading position of the brand in a segment, to underline its uniqueness as well as the fact that the brand itself significantly differs from the others. Humorous trend of the advertisement and the usage of animated products was a way to create a bond between consumers and the brand therefore perceived as close and friendly.

Biedronka awarded for CSR activities
This year, for the 7th time, the Home&Market monthly granted the awards of “Best Business Partner”. Biedronka received this title for activities within the scope of responsible business, in particular cooperation with Caritas. The ceremonious gala, during which the awards were presented, took place on October 23rd in Warsaw.

Consumer Laurels for Biedronka
The contest “Consumer Laurels” has been settled. Biedronka won the 1st place and the award “Golden Customer Laurels 2008” in category “Customer-Friendly Stores”. The awards have been distributed for a couple of years on the basis of research enabling selection of the most popular products and services on the domestic market. The research encompasses opinions of the society verified by questionnaires. An important element of this year’s edition of the contest was also the readers’ voting. “The award granted by Customers has a special meaning to us. We are very pleased that Customers appreciate our daily efforts aimed at best fulfilling their daily needs and expectations.” said Pedro Pereira da Silva, director general of Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja.

JMD among the biggest companies
Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja SA is one of the fifteen biggest companies on the list of 500 biggest companies issued by the Polityka magazine. In 2007 ranking the magazine analyzed the situation of 500 companies. JMD was ranked 11th among such entities as Polska Grupa Energetyczna (Polish Energy Group), Telekomunikacja Polska (Polish Telecommunication) and Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish National Railway). The place in the ranking is decided by overall income of the company.

TV “Galaretka” (“Jelly”) awarded
April was the month of the final gala event for the Polish Advertisement Competition of KTR 2008 at which our commercial of “Galaretka” (“Jelly”) won the third prize i.e. bronze statuette in the category of TV commercial, retail and public services. Our spot was also awarded by the journalists. That was another accolade for our advertisement after the previous awards for the commercial of “Leniwe” (“curd cheese dumplings”) (Golden Eagle statuette), honorable mention for “Ziemniaki” (“potatoes”) and award nomination for “Gołąbki” (“stuffed cabbage”) on which we had informed before.

Heart for the animals
Biedronka store chain was nominated to an award in a competition organized by “Mój Pies” (”My dog”) monthly magazine. Among the nominees are people and institutions which, through their activities, try to improve animals' welfare. Biedronka got the nomination for the folder called “Our beloved animals” which includes educational information on how to take care for pets.

Biedronka placed second in the Ranking of 100
Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja, took the second position in the ranking of 100 most valuable commercial companies in Poland in 2007. At the same time, JMD was 37 among all companies in the ranking of 100 most valuable companies nationwide. Ranking of “one hundred” presenting the most valuable Polish companies in 2007 was developed by the editorial office of Newsweek weekly in cooperation with the renowned international company of strategic consultancy, A.T. Kearney.

“Gołąbki” TV Spot Nominated
The spot “Gołąbki” was nominated for the Golden Eagles 2007 award in the services category. It is another time when our TV commercials are appreciated. The 2006 winner in the services category was our spot entitled “Leniwe”, and “Ziemniaki” - another spot - was honored too. During the Golden Eagles Advertising Festival the best Polish commercials produced last year are awarded.

„Safe Company 2007”
Polish Rescue Teams Championships held under the patronage of health vice-minister, Jarosław Pinkas, took place in Józefów, near Warsaw, on October 13th -14th. Forty one teams from all over Poland competed in the event. JMD team placed fourth! The championships proved to be a great occasion to practise the rules of giving first aid. It is significant due to the fact that accidents at workplace happen more often than traffic collisions. In many cases one’s life can be saved, if the injured is offered help before the ambulance’s arrival.

The Thousandth Biedronka Opened
Biedronka opened their one thousandth store, which is located at Zwolenska Street in Warsaw, on September 24th. The store’s total area is 1172 square meters, 623 square meters of which are occupied by the sales area that comes with six cashier desks. The thousandth store is a result of the consistent policy of dynamic growth of Biedronka chain. The festive opening and unveiling of a board commemorating the event was hosted by Mr. E. Alexandre Soares dos Santos, Chairman of the Jeronimo Martins Group.

The second round of Superbrands - a project aimed at naming the strongest brands in the Polish market – was topped with a festive gala held at the Warsaw Hilton Hotel on April 19th. Consumers' Choice - Products of The Year from Biedronka
Due to the mutual effort of JMD and its business partners Biedronka products, as the only ones offered by a retail chain, have been granted the prestigious 2006 “Consumers’ Choice – Product of the Year” reward. Produced exclusively for our chain and according to our criteria, three Biedronka products – FruVita yoghurts (produced by Bakoma), Światowid cheese produced by OSM Łowicz, and since December 1st 2005 by SM Mlekpol) as well as Złota Rybka frozen fish fillets (produced by Frosta Sp. z.o.o.) were named 2006 Products of the Year in their respective categories by consumers in a unique marketing program started in France 20 years ago. ->>
