Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja S.A. is the owner of Poland's largest chain of retail stores that now operates  over 1500 stores and 8 modern Distribution Centres in Grudziądz, Kostrzyn, Lubin, Ruda Śląska, Wyszków, Wojnicz, Mszczonów and Kąty Wrocławskie. The stores are located across Poland in both large and small cities, offering high quality foodstuffs, industrial goods, and household chemistry products at low prices every day.

  • The company entered the Polish market in 1995. In the course of 14 years, over PLN 3.0 billion has been invested in the chain's development and modernisation.  
  • In January 1998 JMD purchased 243 Biedronka stores. In the years 1998-2000 385 new stores were opened along with 4 modern Distribution Centres. In 2005 the 5th Distribution Centre was launched in Kostrzyn, being one of the most modern distribution centres both in Poland and in Europe. In 2006 the 6th Distribution Centre was opened in Wojnicz.
  • Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja co-operates with over 400 suppliers from all over Poland, with the majority of them since the beginning of its operation in the Polish market.

Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja takes an active part in the Polish business life, and is one of the largest investors. For instance, the company was the host sponsor of the "Poland's Roadshow in Portugal - New Business Perspectives" conference organised by Roadshow Polska, the Young Business Roundtable, and the Confederation of Polish Employers. The Polish Logistics Society presented JMD with an award for its project entitled "The Implementation of Logistics Label in JMD Chain of Supplies" that made it possible to increase the efficiency of, and raise the effectiveness in, the company's logistics system.

Jeronimo Martins Dystrybucja is a member of the Portuguese Jeronimo Martins Group which dates back to 1792, when Jeronimo Martins opened his first store in Lisbon. The store specialised in the sale of products imported from abroad. Their quality has been quickly appreciated, and Jeronimo Martins became the official supplier of the Royal House, and of the embassies.

Currently the Jeronimo Martins Group is the largest food corporation in Portugal. It owns the chains of Feira Nova and Pingo Doce hyper- and supermarkets, and the cash&carry chain called Recheio. Jeronimo Martins is also the exclusive distributor in Portugal of world brands such as Calvin Klein, Nino Cerutti, Hussel, Nestle (selected brands), Bahlsen, Heinz/Guloso, and Kellog's. The corporation employs the total of over 30,000 people. Since 1989 the shares of Jeronimo Martins Group have been quoted on the Portuguese Stock Exchange.
